LTTO MOOC

Learning to Teach Online is now a Massive Open Online Course (MOOC)

The Learning to Teach Online (LTTO) MOOC, Led by Associate Professor Simon McIntyre and Dr Negin Mirriahi, is based upon the multi award winning open educational resource of the same name, developed by Simon McIntyre and Karin Watson.

The MOOC is designed to help existing educators establish or improve their own online or blended teaching practices, and is suitable for all teachers in higher education, elementary, college, vocational or private education. There is no requirement for you to possess prior knowledge of online teaching practices or related technologies, as the course is aimed at beginners or those wishing to expand their knowledge. As part of the course, you will have the opportunity to develop your understanding of effective online teaching practices and their relationship to the use of different technologies. You will also be encouraged to progressively design and reflect upon your own online learning activity, assessment or resource for use in your own class if you choose to undertake the course assignments.

This course is not intended as a comprehensive manual for online teaching. Rather, it is intended as a starting point to help you develop your understanding of the principals involved; a place where you can get advice about strategies you might try; and a means from which you can begin to build your confidence and capacity to continue the learning journey in your own context and practice.

Course Modules

There are 8 key concepts that we discuss in this course, and each is housed in what we call a Module. The course is divided into 5 ‘weeks’, with 2 modules per week for the first 4 weeks, with a number of question and answer videos making up Week 5.

The modules in the course are:
Week 1: Module 1: Why is Online Teaching Important? and Module 2: Open and Institutionally Supported Technologies
Week 2: Module 3: Planning Online Learning and Module 4: Online Learning Activities
Week 3: Module 5: Online Assessment Strategies and Module 6: Online Resources
Week 4: Module 7: Engaging and Motivating Students and Module 8: Evaluation Strategies
Week 5: Questions and Answers, comprising many Q&A videos where Simon and Negin answer top questions about online teaching.
